Centering Victims in a Changing World: Upholding Victims’ Rights Amid Evolving Crimes
THURSDAY, 22 MAY 2025
4:30 – 5:30pm in M0E79
In an era of new, emerging, and evolving forms of crime, protecting victims and upholding their rights is essential. Historically, victims—whether individuals or entire communities—have been overlooked in criminal justice policy. This session advocates for the strengthening of victim support mechanisms, ensuring that victims’ voices are not only heard but are centered in crime prevention and criminal justice strategies. It emphasizes the pivotal role of civil society organizations in advancing victim justice and calls for comprehensive, integrated, and individual approaches that prioritize victims’ rights and ensure access to justice in an increasingly complex criminal landscape.
