In 1991 was born the  "Società Italiana di Vittimologia" (or S.I.V., Italian Society of Victimology), that in 2004 saw an expansion of its staff including researchers from the university and people coming from public and private institutions already working with victims of crime.
S.I.V. offers scientific counselling for supporting and helping all kinds of victims, facing the results produced in short and long time victimization. Among others, an important aim is to promote projects in order to protect people who live in sufferance like victims of crime, first of all, but also people who are banished from society, victims of war, environmental disasters and unfair practises of justice. An example of such a commitment could be found in the organization, by the S.I.V., of the conference on "Victims, crimes, civil rights and responsibility", in 1993, along with C.I.R.Vi. and C.N.R. and, more recently, in 2005, in the promotion of two days of study on important topics like "Victims of homicide: multi-medial analysis of a case study" and "Victims and new types of injury" thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Imola.

Finally, with respect to the importance of training for social workers, psychologists, lawyers and counsellors S.I.V. fostered in 2005, along with C.I.R.Vi.S,. the course of high level post degree in "Techniques of investigation in criminology and victimology", in order to promote the spread of a victimological sensibility
